History was made on Saturday, August 25th, 1979 when the Hollywood Allstars
celebrity softball team played their first game ever in a major league ballpark. This
group of popular television and film personalities included such celebrities as Gil
Gerard from "Buck Rogers", Kent McCord from "Adam 12", Robert Walden from
"Lou Grant", Jamie Widdoes from "Animal House", Tony LoBianco from "The French
Connection", Carl Weathers from "Rocky" and Danny Aiello Following the success
of this six inning game at Shea Stadium, many of Hollywood's brightest young stars wanted
to try out for this fun, but competitive celebrity softball team.
In February of 1980, over 60 celebrities attended a combination tryout and
spring training camp to create a roster of well known celebrities who were better
than average athletes, Celebrities such as Mark Harmon, Jack Scalia, Robert Hegyes,
Gregory Harrison, Bo Hopkins, Donny Most, Gary Collins, Gary Sandy, Fred Willard,
Martin Kove, Carlos Palomino, Thomas Hearns, Tom Hanks, Frank Bonner, Tim
Reid, Brodie Greer, Hart Bochner, Peter Isacksen, Michael Keaton, Tony Danza,
Sam J. Jones, Adrian Zmed, William Devane, Pat Peterson, John Callahan, Peter
Reckell, Drake Hogestyn, Richard Dean Anderson, Levar Burton, Josh Taylor, Don
Diamont, Timothy Busfield, Anthony Denison, Corbin Bernsen, Mark-Paul Gosselaar,
Dalton James, Jason Priestley, Kristoff St. John, Morgan Englund,
Christopher Noth, Treat Williams, Ron Silver, Regis Philbin, Jason Gedrick, John
Oates, Ben Stiller, Lou Diamond Phillips, Noah Wyle, Mathew Broderick, Shemar Moore,
Daniel Baldwin, Meat Loaf, Tom Arnold, Jim Breuer, John Shea, David Schwimmer
and Donald Trump are just a few of the many celebrities who
have participated as members of Hollywood Allstars Celebrity Games.
Now entering their 20th year, the Hollywood Allstars have appeared in many
major league and minor league stadiums including Candlestick Park, Arlington
Stadium, Wrigley Field, Anaheim Stadium, The Astrodome, Oakland Coliseum, Shea
Stadium, Fenway Park, Veterans Stadium, Yankee Stadium, RFK Stadium and Mile
High Stadium. The Hollywood Allstars have played games against the NFL L.A.
Raiders, S.F. 49ers, Buffalo Bills, Washington Redskins, N.Y. Giants, Dallas Cowboys,
Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, L.A. Rams, Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles,
Tampa Bay Bucs and the NHL N.Y. Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, L.A. Kings, Calgary
Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, the NHL All-Stars and a team of
Indy 500 drivers including Al Unser, Jr., Mario Andretti, Danny Sullivan, Jimmy
Vasser, Paul Tracy, Rick Mears, Mike and Robby Groff.
Having played over 200 games throughout the North America, the Hollywood
Allstars allow well known television, film and music personalities to live their
baseball fantasy while playing fun and competitive celebrity games for charity.
